SciFest 2024

BITE was delighted to support Trinity Comprehensive in it's first ever SciFest@School Fair. The Fair had entries from 1st year students and TY students from topics such as moon craters and plant life to science favourites like slime and elephant toothpaste with all projects and students being supported by science teacher Mr. Imonopi.

All students displayed fantastic scientific inquiry and technique but also creativity, strong communication skills and team work - skills people often forget are also needed for future careers in STEM. Although all the students who participated in the day were winners in our book, there were some students who just really excelled so a special congratulations to those that won awards on the day and good luck to those students going on to exhibit at SciFest@College in May 2024.

Students from DEIS school, particularly girls, are less likely to pursue STEM related courses or careers or study higher level maths so working to create more positive, hands on experience in STEM with access to role models is particularly important for students coming from DEIS schools. We hope this starts a wonderful new tradition in Ballymun and becomes bigger and better every year.

To our fantastic judges on the day, Bogdan (past pupil and Computer Science Student, NCI) Conor Reddy (Phd candidate at Trinity Translational Medicine Institute), Dr Deirdre McAdams (Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Trinity College Dublin) Isabel Meza (STEM Passport for Inclusion, Maynooth University), Lizzy Gageby Bell (Communications Assistant at the Rediscovery Centre) and Prof Lorraine Hanlon (Professor of Astronomy, UCD) a massive thank and to the team at SciFest for their support and JCSP library for hosting the day.
